Greetings and welcome to the Madison Area Component site!
We are planning a 2 CREDIT CE course on Saturday February 4th from 10 am to noon at Madison Area Technical College at the West Campus on Gammon and Mineral Point Road. Watch your mail for a newsletter from MADHA . For further information contact Lisa Bell or myself.
My goal as President of MADHA is to increase local membership and involvement in our profession.
I served on the Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board from 2000 to 2005. During my term I became a hygiene examiner for Central Regional Dental Testing Service, Inc. The CRDTS Hygiene competency exam is accepted by more state dental boards than any other in the country .
I was recently nominated by the Dentistry Examining Board to serve on the Hygiene Exam Review Committee which prepares and annually updates a precise format for the examination of dental hygienists for CRDTS.
I have been a faculty member at Madison Area Technical College for 19 years while working part time in a dental practice. Marcy LeFevre and I started a SADHA club this year and we are enjoying our great success!
I am looking for a few members to help with the renewal of our component. Please contact me if you would like to get in on the ground floor for the building process!
~Cathy
Congratulations to Lisa Bell, RDH public health dental hygienist and to her team of dedicated dental professionals at the Madison Dental Initiative. They won $10,000 from Heartland Credit Union to further their mission of providing dental care to the area homeless population. Click the link below to see the video. Thank you to all who support this mission.

The Salvation Army (SA) Thursday night dental clinic, founded in May 2009, grew out of a desire by Dr. Matthew Kutz, Dr. Laura Tills, and State Public Health Dental Hygienist Lisa Bell to meet the oral health needs of the homeless population in Madison. The Madison Dental Initiative was established with the inception of this clinic. Since its opening, the clinic has provided care for 265 patients.
Establishing the SA Dental Clinic was made possible through collaboration with the Salvation Army and the MEDiC Salvation Army Clinic as well as a grant, which funded setup costs and equipment.
The SA Dental Clinic is staffed by volunteer health professional students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a team of dedicated local dentists who volunteer their time and talents.
The clinic has helped patients receive fillings and extractions, as well as preventive measures such as deep periodontal cleanings and dental sealants.
The clinic is set up to do a wide variety of both preventive and restorative care, including simple root canals, stainless steel crowns, and pulpotomies (baby tooth root canals).
Students volunteering at the Salvation Army Dental Clinic have expanded their role from intake and patient history to assisting in activities like suctioning and other dental procedures.
St. Joseph’s Medical and Dental Clinic in Waukesha provides access to free or low cost dental care to uninsured and low-income residents of Waukesha County. It is an independent non-profit agency serving the community for over 30 years. Dental hygiene clinics are coordinated and supervised by a Registered Dental Hygienist and provide prophylaxis and oral hygiene instructions to pre-screened adult patients. On-site clinics currently run during the day from 8:30-1:30 PM on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Through a partnership we are adding a satellite clinic at Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 6-8 PM.
If you are looking for volunteer opportunities to serve the community while using your professional skills, we invite you to join us in staffing these clinics. As a recent retiree or graduate, this is an excellent opportunity to build your resume´ and maintain your skills.
It’s easy to get started – just contact our Office Manager, Marni Coutino or Dental Coordinator, Ellen Schleicher RDH, BA at 262-544-6777.
