Annual WDHA Student Scholarship

The WDHA is Proud to Announce the Recipients of the Annual WDHA Student Scholarship. Students from each of the dental hygiene programs in Wisconsin were invited to apply for this $200.00 scholarship opportunity.  The students were asked to write an essay on:
“How Being a Student Member of ADHA Has Impacted My Professional Development”
Below is a list of the scholarship recipients and an excerpt from each essay for you to enjoy. Congratulations to the winners!

Stephanie Hopf Fox Valley Technical College

“Together all the members of the ADHA can continue to be a voice and fight for the issues that affect our career.  I learned that if I am not part of this network then I do not have a voice.  It is important to support the ADHA so that together all members can help to make dental hygiene a career that we all love.”

Melissa Bridges Western Technical College

“I definitely believe that my student ADHA membership has allowed me to see much more of the hygiene community than I would have otherwise.  I may have never known about the strides that are being made for changes in the profession or the other options available for hygienists had I not been a part of the ADHA.”

Melissa Hubbard Chippewa Valley Technical College

“By realizing that knowledge and education are key factors in the dental hygiene profession, it is my responsibility to provide the utmost quality of care for my patients.  By being part of the ADHA I have achieved these characteristics of a professional dental hygienist.”

Emily McFadden Fox Valley Technical College

“Being a part of ADHA gives me the opportunity to take part in my school’s dental club as well.  The different projects we are a part of give me a chance to give back to the community in many ways.  My fellow graduating class and I are in the dental club together, and it helps to create a sense of unity and support among us.”

Megan Lube, Chippewa Valley Technical College

“I have seen myself grow in confidence not only in what I have learned but in how I carry myself as an individual and also the relationships I have established thus far.  Without the opportunities presented to me by ADHA, I am not sure I would love the dental hygiene field as much as I do!”

Lindsey Passe, Western Technical College

“Being a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association is vital in providing a voice in government, mainly to protect the future of dental hygiene.  I have not currently had the opportunity to exercise this right, but I know it is available for my concerns regarding my career choice, and is important to the future of the profession.”

Bethany Gardner, Chippewa Valley Technical College

Annual session: Attended 2009 annual session in Washington D.C
Determination: It gives me a drive to take on challenges and finish them.
History: Looking at the timeline and what the ADHA has done for dental hygiene makes me want to stay involved and help making history for the future.
Aptitude: I am ready to learn and accept new challenges.”
